Hacienda Cafetera Cincinnati, located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia, South America, was founded in 1898 and today is recognized as one of the most important pioneer coffee entrepreneurship projects of Colombia in the last century.
In 2010, after more than 100 years since its foundation, the Cincinnati Coffee Company acquired this historical farm and began its renovation. Today Hacienda Cincinnati has become a producer of gourmet organic coffee of the highest quality, carefully cultivated and harvested under the shade of native trees, creating a canopy to guarantee the preservation of the environment, hydric resources, flora and fauna throughout the entire cycle of processing of the coffee grains.
The particular environmental conditions of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta –the highest intertropical coastal mountain in the world, located on the shores of the Colombian Caribbean Sea- offers an extraordinary environment for the life of hundreds of flora and fauna species. Recognized and valued worldwide as a unique and natural ecosystem, it has been declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization –UNESCO- as a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage.
Worth mentioning within the fauna diversity are the birds that live in this exuberant habitat. Of the 1.876 bird species in Colombia, 635 are from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta of which can be found 7% of the worlds birds and 35% of Colombia’s. Furthermore, its mountains are of exceptional importance for migratory birds who come from northeastern Canada and United States when crossing the Caribbean, thus having been declared by Bird Life International as a Important Bird Area (IBA).
